Person
Frederick William, Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin
Frederick William was Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin from 1692 to 1713. When the Güstrow line of the House of Mecklenburg died out in 1695, he disputed its inheritance with his uncle Adolf Frederick. The Treaty of Hamburg of 1701 settled the quarrel: Frederick William kept the larger western share around Schwerin and Rostock, while Adolf Frederick received Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The division lasted until 1918.
