Frederick William II of Prussia
Frederick William II was King of Prussia from 1786 to 1797, nephew and successor of Frederick the Great. In 1787 he sent an army into the Dutch Republic to restore the authority of Stadtholder William V, husband of his sister Wilhelmina, against the Patriots. He joined the war against revolutionary France in 1792 but made a separate peace at Basel in 1795, while Prussia gained large Polish territories in the partitions of 1793 and 1795.
