Führer
Führer, German for 'leader', was the title used by Adolf Hitler as head of the Nazi Party and, from August 1934, as head of the German state after he merged the offices of president and chancellor on the death of Paul von Hindenburg. The title expressed the Nazi principle that all authority flowed from one leader, and the armed forces swore a personal oath of loyalty to Hitler as Führer.
