Fyodor Sergeyev

1883–1921 · 20th century · Also known as Comrade Artyom

Fyodor Sergeyev, known as Artyom, was a Russian Bolshevik revolutionary who organised workers in the Donbas and spent several years in exile in Australia. In 1918 he headed the short-lived Donetsk–Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic, arguing that the industrial region belonged with Soviet Russia rather than Ukraine. He died in 1921 in the crash of the experimental Aerowagon railcar near Moscow.
