c. 850 · 9th century · Also known as Ganita Sara Sangraha

The Ganitasarasangraha is a Sanskrit treatise on mathematics written about 850 by the Jain mathematician Mahaviracharya at the Rashtrakuta court of Amoghavarsha I. It covers arithmetic, fractions, geometry, the rules of zero, quadratic equations and permutations and combinations, and gives practical problems in verse. The first Indian work devoted entirely to mathematics rather than astronomy, it was widely used in South India.
