Gihon Spring
The Gihon Spring is the main natural spring of ancient Jerusalem, in the Kidron valley below the City of David. Its water made settlement on the ridge possible, and massive towers were built to protect it in the Middle Bronze Age. King Hezekiah dug the Siloam tunnel in the late 8th century BCE to carry its water inside the city walls, and the Bible names it as the place where Solomon was anointed king.
