Hezekiah

r. c. 715–686 BCE · 8th century BCE

Hezekiah was king of Judah from about 715 to 686 BCE, remembered in the Hebrew Bible as a reformer who centralised worship in Jerusalem. He joined a revolt against Assyria and prepared Jerusalem by cutting the Siloam tunnel to bring water inside the walls. In 701 BCE Sennacherib invaded Judah, took Lachish and blockaded Jerusalem, and Hezekiah kept his throne by paying heavy tribute.
