Hiarbas

d. 81 BCE · 1st century BCE · Also known as Iarbas of Numidia

Hiarbas was a king of Numidia in the early first century BCE, installed after the expulsion of Hiempsal II with the backing of the Marian faction in Rome's civil war. When Sulla's lieutenant Pompey invaded Africa in 81 BCE, he defeated the Marian commander Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus and his ally Hiarbas, who was captured and put to death, and Hiempsal II was restored.
