Jeremiah

c. 650–570 BCE · 6th century BCE

Jeremiah was a Hebrew prophet in Jerusalem from the late 7th century BCE until after its destruction by the Babylonians in 587 BCE. He warned that Judah would fall for its unfaithfulness and urged submission to Babylon, which led to his imprisonment under King Zedekiah. After the fall of Jerusalem he was taken to Egypt. The Book of Jeremiah is attributed to him.
