Gil Gavbara

fl. 7th century · 7th century

Gil Gavbara was a prince from Gilan who, according to later tradition, took control of Tabaristan around 642 as the Sasanian Empire collapsed. He claimed Sasanian descent. His sons Dabuya and Paduspan founded the Dabuyid and Paduspanid dynasties, which kept Iranian rule alive on the Caspian coast long after the Arab conquest.
