Giovanni Antonio Ranza
Giovanni Antonio Ranza was a Piedmontese priest-scholar turned Jacobin publicist who, with Ignazio Bonafous, proclaimed the short-lived Republic of Alba in April 1796 during Napoleon's first Italian campaign. The French did not support the venture, and it ended within days when Piedmont made peace with France.
