Gisulf II of Salerno

d. c. 1090 · 11th century

Gisulf II was the last Lombard Prince of Salerno, ruling from 1052. His sister Sichelgaita married the Norman Robert Guiscard, but relations between the two broke down, and Robert besieged Salerno and took it in 1077. Gisulf then went to Rome and served Pope Gregory VII and his successors as an administrator of papal lands.
