Gjin Bua Shpata

d. 1399 · 14th century

Gjin Bua Shpata was an Albanian chieftain who, after Albanian clans killed the despot Nikephoros II Orsini in 1359, took Angelokastron and Lepanto in Aetolia and ruled them as a despot. On the death of Peter Losha in 1374 he also took Arta, uniting the two Albanian despotates of southern Epirus. He fought Thomas Preljubović of Ioannina, the Navarrese Company and others, and ruled until his death in 1399.
