Great Man-Made River
The Great Man-Made River is a large pipeline network in Libya, begun in the 1980s, that pumps fossil groundwater from aquifers beneath the Sahara to coastal cities. Accounts of the Garamantian Empire draw a parallel between it and the ancient Garamantes' exploitation of the same non-renewable water.
