Gundahar

d. 436 · 5th century · Also known as Gundicar

Gundahar was a king of the Burgundians in the early 5th century who, as a Roman ally, set up a Burgundian kingdom on the Rhine around 411, traditionally centred on Worms. When the Burgundians raided Roman territory, the general Aetius had them crushed by Hunnic troops in 436, and Gundahar was killed. He is remembered as Gunther in the Nibelungenlied.
