Gustav Adolph, Duke of Mecklenburg-Güstrow

1633–1695 · 17th century

Gustav Adolph was the last Duke of Mecklenburg-Güstrow, reigning from 1636 under a regency and in person from 1654 until his death in 1695. A Lutheran ruler, he rebuilt a land devastated by the Thirty Years' War. He died without surviving sons, and the dispute over his inheritance was settled by the Treaty of Hamburg in 1701, which created Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Strelitz.
