Guzgan
Guzgan, known in Arabic as Juzjan, was a historical region of northern Afghanistan between Balkh and Merv, roughly the modern provinces of Jowzjan and Faryab. From the late 9th century it was ruled by the Farighunid dynasty, patrons of learning to whom the Persian geography Hudud al-Alam was dedicated in 982. The region was absorbed by the Ghaznavid Empire in the early 11th century.
