Sheberghan

Also known as Shiburghan, Shibarghan

Sheberghan is a city in northern Afghanistan, the capital of Jowzjan Province on the plain between the Hindu Kush foothills and the Amu Darya. Medieval geographers knew it as Shiburghan, one of the towns of the region of Guzgan. Nearby lies Tillya Tepe, where Soviet and Afghan archaeologists found the hoard of some 20,000 gold objects known as the Bactrian Gold in 1978.
