Hamar Weyne

Also known as Xamar Weyne

Hamar Weyne is one of the two oldest quarters of Mogadishu, on the coast of Somalia, alongside Shingani. Its narrow streets, coral-stone houses and mosques preserve the medieval core of the city, which grew rich on Indian Ocean trade. In later centuries the two quarters were rival political factions within the town.
