Hamburg Stock Exchange
The Hamburg Stock Exchange, founded in 1558, is the oldest exchange in Germany. It began as a meeting place for merchants dealing in goods, bills of exchange and shipping, and helped make Hamburg a leading centre of northern European trade. Its building on the town hall square survived the Great Fire of 1842.
