Hansetag

1356–1669 · 14th century · Also known as Hanseatic Diet

The Hansetag, or Hanseatic Diet, was the general assembly of the Hanseatic League, attended by envoys of the member towns. The first is usually dated to 1356 at Lübeck, which hosted most later meetings. It decided on trade policy, embargoes, war and relations with foreign rulers, though towns did not always follow its decisions. The last diet met in 1669.
