Harsha of Kashmir

d. 1101 · 11th century

Harsha was a king of Kashmir of the Lohara dynasty, reigning from 1089 to 1101. A cultured ruler and poet, he later turned to heavy taxation and melted down temple images to pay his troops, conflicts recorded in Kalhana's Rajatarangini. Revolts led by the Damara landholders and his kinsmen Uchchala and Sussala overthrew him, and he was killed in 1101.
