Henry III, Holy Roman Emperor
Henry III, of the Salian dynasty, was king of Germany from 1039 and Holy Roman Emperor from 1046. At the Synod of Sutri in 1046 he deposed rival popes and went on to install reforming German popes. He favoured the palace at Goslar, near the Rammelsberg silver mines, where he founded the collegiate church of Saints Simon and Jude; his heart was buried there after his death in 1056.
