Hittite sack of Washukanni

c. 1340 BCE · 14th century BCE · Also known as sacked Washukanni

The Hittite sack of Washukanni was the capture of the Mitanni capital by the Hittite king Suppiluliuma I around 1340 BCE. Suppiluliuma then installed Shattiwaza as a vassal king. The defeat broke Mitanni's power and reduced it to a dependent rump state, a decisive moment in the decline of the Mitanni Empire.
