Tushratta

Tushratta was a king of the Mitanni Empire in the fourteenth century BCE. He corresponded with the Egyptian pharaohs Amenhotep III and Akhenaten in letters preserved in the Amarna archive and sent his daughter in marriage to Egypt. He defended the kingdom against the Hittite king Suppiluliuma I, and accounts of the Mitanni Empire describe how his assassination and the contested succession that followed opened the way for Hittite intervention and the sack of Washukanni.
