Holstentor

1464–1478 · 15th century · Also known as Holsten Gate

The Holstentor is a brick Gothic city gate of Lübeck, built between 1464 and 1478 to guard the western approach to the city. Its two round towers became a symbol of the city and of the Hanseatic League, and it now houses a museum of the city's history. It belongs to the old town of Lübeck, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
