Holy Alliance

1815 · 19th century

The Holy Alliance was an agreement signed in September 1815 by the rulers of Russia, Austria and Prussia, proposed by Tsar Alexander I, by which they pledged to govern according to Christian principles. Under Metternich's influence it came to stand for the conservative powers' cooperation in suppressing liberal and national revolutions in Europe after the Napoleonic Wars.
