Holy Cross Abbey

c. 1180 · 12th century

Holy Cross Abbey is a Cistercian abbey on the River Suir in County Tipperary, refounded around 1180 under the patronage of Domnall Mór O'Brien, king of Thomond. It held a relic of the True Cross and became a major place of pilgrimage. The abbey was largely rebuilt in the 15th century and restored as a parish church in the 20th.
