True Cross

The True Cross is the name given to relics venerated by Christians as remains of the cross on which Jesus was crucified. A major relic of the cross was carried into battle by the army of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. It was captured by Saladin's forces at the Battle of Hattin in 1187, along with King Guy of Lusignan, shortly before the surrender of Jerusalem.
