Trucial States Council

1952–1971 · 20th century

The Trucial States Council was a body set up by Britain in 1952 in which the rulers of the seven Trucial sheikhdoms met regularly under the chairmanship of the British Political Agent. It discussed common matters such as roads, health and education, and from 1965 it had its own development office and fund. It accustomed the rulers to joint decisions and served as a forerunner of the United Arab Emirates, formed in 1971.
