County Clare
County Clare is a county in the west of Ireland, between the Shannon estuary and Galway Bay. It was formed from the Gaelic kingdom of Thomond, ruled by the O'Briens, when the English administration shired the area in the 1570s. The O'Brien earls of Thomond, who held their seat at Bunratty, remained its leading family.
