Galway
Galway is a city on the west coast of Ireland, at the mouth of the River Corrib on Galway Bay, and gives its name to County Galway. Founded as an Anglo-Norman town by the de Burgh family in the 13th century, it was governed by merchant families known as the Tribes of Galway and traded widely with Spain and France. The surrounding county takes in Connemara and the old lordships of the O'Flahertys and the Clanricarde Burkes.
