O'Flaherty
The O'Flahertys, Ó Flaithbheartaigh, are a Gaelic Irish family who were originally kings of Muintir Murchada east of Lough Corrib in Connacht. Driven west by the Anglo-Norman de Burghs in the 13th century, they ruled Iar Connacht and Connemara for some three centuries, building tower houses such as Aughnanure. Their lordship ended under English rule in the late 16th and 17th centuries.
