Lough Corrib
Lough Corrib is the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland, lying north of Galway city in Connacht. It divided the lowlands of east Galway from Connemara to the west. The O'Flahertys were originally lords of Muintir Murchada east of the lake, but in the 13th century the Anglo-Norman de Burghs drove them west, where they ruled Iar Connacht beyond its shores.
