County Carlow
County Carlow is one of the smallest counties of Ireland, in the province of Leinster, crossed by the rivers Barrow and Slaney. In early medieval times it lay within the lands of the Uí Chennselaig kings of south Leinster. After the Anglo-Norman conquest it became one of the liberties into which the Marshal lordship of Leinster was divided in 1247, while the MacMurrough Kavanaghs held much of it against English rule until the 16th century.
