Horse trade

Also known as horses from North Africa

The horse trade refers to the exchange of horses, often over long distances, for military and prestige purposes. In the central Sudan, horses imported from North Africa across the Sahara were vital to cavalry warfare. The Kanem-Bornu Empire built its military power partly on such imported horses, often exchanged for enslaved captives.
