Tripoli, Greece
Tripoli, known in Ottoman times as Tripolitsa, is a city in the central Peloponnese of Greece and the capital of Arcadia. Under Ottoman rule it was the seat of the pasha of the Morea. In September 1821 Greek insurgents under Theodoros Kolokotronis captured it after a siege, followed by a massacre of its Muslim and Jewish inhabitants. It was destroyed by Ibrahim Pasha's army in 1828 and later rebuilt.
