House of Kyburg

Also known as Counts of Kyburg

The House of Kyburg was a comital family of the Swiss plateau, a branch of the counts of Dillingen named after Kyburg Castle near Winterthur. In 1218 they inherited much of the Zähringen lands, including Burgdorf, Thun and Fribourg, and they founded towns such as Winterthur, Diessenhofen and Frauenfeld. When Hartmann IV and Hartmann V died without male heirs in 1263–1264, Rudolf of Habsburg took most of their lands.
