House of Lara

The House of Lara was one of the most powerful noble families of medieval Castile, named after Lara de los Infantes near Burgos. In the 12th century its members, among them Manrique Pérez de Lara, dominated the regency of the young Alfonso VIII in rivalry with the Castro family and held the Lordship of Molina. The family remained prominent in Castilian politics into the 14th century.
