Huan Wen

312–373 · 4th century

Huan Wen was a general and statesman of the Eastern Jin who dominated the court for two decades. He conquered Cheng Han in Sichuan in 347 and led campaigns into the north, retaking Luoyang in 356, but was defeated by the Former Yan general Murong Chui at Fangtou in 369. He deposed an emperor in 371 and was thought to aim at the throne, which his son Huan Xuan later seized as emperor of Huan Chu.
