Hywel Dda

c. 880–950 · 10th century · Also known as Hywel the Good

Hywel Dda, Hywel the Good, was a Welsh king, grandson of Rhodri the Great. He inherited Seisyllwg, united it with Dyfed around 920 to form Deheubarth and later ruled most of Wales. He kept peace with the English king Athelstan, and Welsh tradition credits him with codifying the native laws of Wales.
