Iâl
Iâl, anglicised as Yale, was a medieval commote in north-east Wales, around Llanarmon-yn-Iâl and the Alyn valley. Part of Powys Fadog, it passed after the English conquest to the marcher lordship of Bromfield and Yale. The Yale family, whose member Elihu Yale gave his name to Yale University, took its name from the district.
