Idalion Tablet

early 5th century BCE · 5th century BCE · Also known as Idalion bronze

The Idalion Tablet is a bronze plaque of the early 5th century BCE from Idalion in Cyprus, inscribed in Greek in the Cypriot syllabary. It records a contract by which King Stasicypros and the city granted land to the physician Onasilos and his brothers for treating, without fee, those wounded during a siege by the Medes and the Kitians. It is the longest known text in the syllabary and is kept in Paris.
