Ikšķile, German Üxküll, is a town on the Daugava river in Latvia, south-east of Riga. There the missionary Meinhard built a church and one of the first stone castles in the Baltic region in the 1180s. It was the first seat of the bishopric of Livonia before the bishops moved to Riga in 1201.
