Immanuel Kant

1724–1804 · 18th century

Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher who lived and taught all his life in Königsberg in East Prussia. In the Critique of Pure Reason (1781) and later works he examined the limits of human knowledge and grounded morality in reason through the categorical imperative. His essays on enlightenment and perpetual peace also shaped political thought, and he is among the most influential modern philosophers.
