Inukai Tsuyoshi

1855–1932 · 20th century

Inukai Tsuyoshi was a Japanese party politician and Prime Minister from December 1931 to May 1932. A long-serving member of the Diet and leader of the Rikken Seiyūkai, he resisted military control of policy and sought a negotiated settlement in Manchuria. He was assassinated in his official residence by young naval officers on 15 May 1932, an event that ended party cabinets in pre-war Japan.
