Iskar
The Iskar is the longest river flowing entirely within Bulgaria, about 370 kilometres long. It rises in the Rila mountains, passes Sofia and cuts a deep gorge through the Balkan Mountains before joining the Danube. In antiquity it was known as the Oescus and marked the eastern limit of the Triballi, and the Roman town of Oescus stood near its mouth.
