Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres is a small island in the Caribbean Sea off the north-east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, opposite Cancún, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. The Maya had a shrine there to the goddess Ixchel, and Spaniards of Francisco Hernández de Córdoba's expedition named it in 1517 after the female figures they found. It is now a tourist resort.
