Israelites
The Israelites were an ancient Semitic people of the Levant, ancestors of the Jewish people, who formed the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. The Assyrian Empire conquered the northern kingdom of Israel and deported much of its population. Such deportations created lasting resentment among subject peoples that contributed to Assyria's fall.
