Israel Finkelstein

b. 1949 · 20th century

Israel Finkelstein is an Israeli archaeologist at Tel Aviv University and a long-time co-director of the excavations at Megiddo. He is known for the low chronology, which redates many Iron Age buildings once attributed to Solomon to the ninth century BCE, and for arguing, notably in The Bible Unearthed (2001, with Neil Asher Silberman), that the united monarchy of David and Solomon was a small highland polity.
